ruutu kaappauksia. (screen shots.) presents works from two projects by niilo V.; ”the outsiders” and ”hybrid moments”.

the conceptual works explore the technical definitions of documentary photography, and the temporality of visual portrayal in the age of perpetual post-processing.

’the outsiders’ presents a series of recycled images, where digital enlargements shine the spotlight on the outsiders of the focal point.
the artist’s traditionally shot documentary photographs get a new life in the shape of digitally cropped mosaics.
’hybrid moments’ is a series of handheld images from the artist’s life, taken with an iPhone.
contemporary self-portraiture, as made prominent by social media, has made the intimate hyperreal gaze of the mobile technology’s lense a perceptual third eye; an extension of sorts for our right brain and our selective creative identity.
the project works as a series of thumbnails to the artist’s being and daily life during a period of 4 months.

ruutu kaappauksia. is an aesthetic celebration of our contemporary culture of visual communications. a prosaic language, which contains no letters or punctuation at all and the content of which flows more like poetic shrieks, than fluid and composed thoughts.
the exhibition displays how much visual realism, discursive truths and relatability is left in the settings and characters of its documentary works once they’re presented as independent physical objects in a physical space.

ruutu kaappauksia. showcases unstaged moments from human life as a celebration of daily life, elusive emotions and our everchanging identities. freed from individuality, realism and definition.
