DRIFTS FESTIVAL 2023
DRIFTS FESTIVAL 2023
30.09.–01.10.2023
Drifts is a nomadic art platform that organizes transcultural festivals annually in different regions of Helsinki. It seeks to engage with critical dialogues and address urgent societal issues through audiovisual, performative and discursive practices. Drifts fosters a space beyond cultural, geographical and disciplinary boundaries. It contributes to the cultural plurality by engaging with diverse neighborhoods and communities in the city.
All the events are free entrance for everyone.
Ungoverned Lives brings to the fore strategies of resistance through the arts. The notion of being ungoverned opens paths to multiple struggles for self-determination, liberation, equity, dignity, and justice. The Festival signals the need for art and culture to be driving forces in challenging the status quo, and a commitment in our practice to work through plurality, autonomy, and freedom. It serves as an invitation to continue dreaming of a tomorrow where multiplicities can coexist, and as a provocation to open up the possibilities arising when we dare to be ungoverned.
The Festival brings together trans-local and transnational practitioners working with audiovisual, performative, music, experimental, and discursive approaches. This edition is co-directed by Soko Hwang and Giovanna Esposito Yussif. The program is co-curated with Linda Lazarov and Ahmed Barakat.
In 2023, Drifts Festival is realized in collaboration with the Museum of Technology and with the kind support of Kone Foundation, The Finnish Cultural Foundation, AVEK, and the Arts Promotion Centre Finland.
