In July 2023, Porin kulttuurisäätö is out of office with #Holiday365 exhibition about holidays, tourism and work, exploring their potential and essence. The site-specific and event-based exhibition will be open to the public from 14 to 23 July 2023 and takes place in Sotkamo, a town in North-Eastern Finland.
Sotkamo, known for its baseball and diverse sports and leisure activities, is largely built around tourism offering endless trails, an artificial tropic in a spa, and various recreational opportunities. Both the built environment and the centralised tourism highlight the expectations and contradictions we have for a holiday and its setting: on the one hand, it requires certain conditions to be enjoyable, but at the same time a memorable holiday also involves surprises and uniqueness. The holiday is an institution, a livelihood, a privilege, and a much expected break from the demands of our society. One’s holiday is another one’s job, and different professions – such as the artist and the athletes – are conceptualised and conceived in different ways.
Artists Dylan Ray Arnold & Océane Bruel, Riikka Keränen, Katriina Kettunen & Olga Spyropoulou, Heidi Kilpeläinen, Paola Jalili, Mayumi Niiranen-Hisatomi, and Anna-Sofia Sysser are joining us on #Holiday365.
Visual identity and illustrations by Maria Sann.
The exhibition is realised in collaboration with Sotkamo municipality and supported by Kone Foundation and Arts Promotion Centre Finland.
