This exhibition combs the entangled strands of Kemê’s long-run project Villi Akka.
Villi Akka is about recovering intuition and instinct around multiple identities, empowering ourselves, embracing community and celebrating our ambiguities (and weirdness.)
The Villi Akka’s Comb is so objectual as it is an interspace for reconnection with myths as an open source. Streaks of multidisciplinary art and fictional narratives get tangled, bridging traditions, identities, community and intersectional feminism.
We could hope that brushing through texts, photography, embroidery, illustration, mixed media, and many circles* will result in a groomed head and clear face; however, the process is a spell we strengthen by repetition.
Villi Akka started as a project in 2014 based on the wild woman’ archetype and the representation of non-male characters in tales, myths, storytelling and written tradition. Since then, it has been growing and gaining independence.
Kemê (she/her/Kemê) is a multidisciplinary artist, poet and culture
worker based in Helsinki, where she has also become a cat, plant and human mama striving to become a good ancestor, therefore, always learning.
