Finnish Animation Guild’s Masterclass series at Cable Factory’s Konttori

Wednesday Pictures are screening events organised by MUU in collaboration with different partners at Cable Factory’s Konttori. Finnish Animation Guild’s Masterclasses offer an unique opportunity for the audience to hear more about animation art. In the series of Masterclasses a diverse selection of Finnish and international animation artists talks about their films and working process and their work is being screened.

The speaker of the first Masterclass is Lucija Mrzljak (1990, Zagreb). Mrzljak is a Croatian animation film director, illustrator and sound artist based in Tallinn.  In 2016 she completed her MA in animation in Estonia as a student of Priit and Olga Pärn.

Since 2016 she co-directed several award-winning short films with Morten Tšinakov in co-production with Eesti Joonisfilm studio in Tallinn and Adriatic Animation studio in Zagreb: Demonstration of Brilliance in Four Acts, The Stork (2020) and Eeva (2022), which will be seen during the Masterclass. Eeva has won numerous prizes around the world and was short-listed for the Oscar Academy Awards.

Besides animation Lucija also works as an illustrator. She illustrated various posters for film festivals and published a number of illustrated books for children in collaboration with Estonian and Croatian authors. Currently she is teaching at the Animation department at the Estonian Academy of Fine Arts and studies Audiovisual Composition at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre.



Next event:
The guest speaker of the second Masterclass, on Wednesday 24 April will be Finnish animation artist Jenny Jokela. In the Masterclass Jokela will tell more about her latest painted animation Sweet Like Lemons, which will be also seen during the Masterclass.

Finnish Animation Guild is a national organization of animation professionals, animation students and animation enthusiasts. Finnish Animation Guild promotes the visibility and recognition of animation art in Finland and the general operating conditions of the animation industry. The Cable Factory’s Konttori is a large two-storey space at the Cable Factory that includes a café, a shop, a reading room with cultural magazines, and an event venue. Entrance to Konttori is in the gatehouse leading from Tallberginkatu to the courtyard of the Cable Factory, opposite the mural by Thierry Noir.
