Z-Lab

Zodiak Laboratory is Zodiak’s recidency concept. In June 2022 the Z-Lab recidency artist is Jyrki Karttunen.

In the upcoming Zodiak Laboratory residency, I will examine and update my agency as an aging male performer in the context of dance, and hopefully I will find new sustainable ways of being a dancer who expresses fully with his body.

My artistic goal is to highlight a movement-rich self-portrait that emerges from professional reconstruction. I’m also aiming at finding a proposal of a new identity as a maker formed by my experience as a dancer and more recent social services professional in the equally changed dance environment. As a starting point, I’m exploring together with the artistic designers the experiences of separateness, otherness and being an outsider that unfold between these two different professions.
