"I grab a crossbow, a weeping crossbow, a Madeleine crossbow, which is made of steel and bra threads."
Marie-Luce Nadal

Faire pleurer les nuages (Make the Clouds Cry) is a video work from a performance inspired by cloud-seeding techniques used by farmers in Languedoc-Roussillon, France, from 1950.
Nadal inherited this knowledge from her grandfather, a winegrower.
The performance happens outside.
The performance takes place about half an hour in the morning or the evening of a new moon, a little before, during, and a little after the blue hour.

The performance was filmed at Saint Cirq Lapopie (Lot, France) in June 2017.
Camera and editing: Tito Gonzalez Garcia / Duration: 7'

Marie-Luce Nadal (Born in France in 1984) is a transdisciplinary eco-feminist queer visual artist and researcher. MLN is interested in the scientific and mystical relationships that we nurture with our environment, especially with our atmosphere, which is part of our planet but also symbolizes the border with outer space. MLN creates performative machine-works, which have the particularity of mixing plastic singularity, scientific research, and technical viability with the intention that these objects may be used or deployed by the audience. This fascination is especially haunted by the direct impact of atmospheric phenomena. Meteorological and artistic experiences (Make the Clouds Cry, Substances Climatériques, Eolorium, ...) are part of Marie-Luce’s universe. A relationship that is both organic and spiritual binds her to the sky, but also to the Earth, to Gaia, which she sees as a microcosm to be studied as "living" and not as a utilitarian matter. Through modern forms of writing, embodied in movement and image, through systems of projections and metonymies, through variations of scales and animated reproductions of atmospheric systems, MLN seeks to rediscover this vitality, to put it forward, and to nourish it in the minds of her audience. MLN is the first artistic research Ph.D. in Art and Science at ENSAD PSL University in Paris. Her work has been shown in several institutions in France and abroad.
