MIA HAMARI: KOTI—HOME

When I started to create this ensemble I had in my hand only a single word: koti, home.

The exhibition resulted from the deepest reaches of the reality of my own ‘ship’s log’ over course of an entire year: sudden metamorphoses, the most profound reflections on motherhood, womanhood’s mysteries, tales of my home, saints, apparitions, portents, dreams, strange reality.

There may be many homes that possess different meanings: merely somewhere to live, a small nest, a common home, homeland, birthplace, the mind’s home.

My spiritual home is located by a swift river, beneath a vast sky. That is where these works were conceived and thither I perceive myself; it is there that ‘I Am’.

I thought first that my exhibition would be my own sad farewell to my home in the north, but in the end I returned to my husband and family. The meaning of the exhibition title changed to become an auspicious omen.

This home is a state of mind—step inside
