Raconteur, by its title’s definition, takes the role of a storyteller, a spinner of yarns, or a narrator. The media sculpture asks the visitor to engage with its physical presence and to listen to the tale of its material origin. An object given to the visitor at the entrance will unlock a further ability of Raconteur to tell its story. A visual and acoustic transformation is thus initiated, starting with the words “Close your eyes”.

Electronics and programming: Eetu Huhtala.

Thomas Westphal works as a sculptor with various media. He often includes moving images as a building block in the creation of video objects. His inspiration is often rooted in observations of physical activity as well as constructing processes that get re-rooted into kinetic contraptions.

Thomas Westphal (b. Bochum, Germany) has lived and worked in Helsinki since 2001. Westphal studied at the Academy for Art & Design, Enschede in the Netherlands. He holds an MFA degree from the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts (2014).

His works have been shown in European and international exhibitions and are part of the collections of Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art, EMMA Museum of modern art, and the Finnish National Gallery. Add to his solo activity, he works within “Videokaffe” International artist collective.
The event is organized regarding the current sanitary instructions.
