MERIHAKAMATKAT 30 August 2025 is an performance-, video art and music event taking place in Helsinki, in the heart of the idyllic yet concrete-brutalist Merihaka district. The program includes a comprehensive outdoor exhibition, sound art, music, art films, and performance art. All events are free of charge.

MERIHAKAMATKAT begins at the APTEEKKILAVA stage, where music and sound art will be presented from 11:00 to 20:00. There will live gigs from Ya Tosiba, Heta Bilaletdin, Ani Harmi, Vapor Dave, So Many Levels, Plugged Into Nothing and Spiritgumi. The stage is located in front of Meripub and K-Market in Merihaka. Participants are also invited to draw with chalk on the pedestrian street. The APTEEKKILAVA program is open to all ages and family-friendly.

The Performance Art Program of MERIHAKAMATKAT will take place simultaneously with the APTEEKKILAVA schedule. On the hour, a travel guide will pick up guests to attend performances and lead them—with loaned folding chairs—around Merihaka. All performances are held in wheelchair-accessible locations. The themes of the performances address topics such as colonialism, gender, the mineral industry, and mental health. The final APTEEKKILAVA program item at 20:00 will be an art film screening projected onto a building wall, featuring three short films. The recommended age rating for the screening is 12+.

At 20:00, MERIHAKAMATKAT continues to Restaurant Sir Oliver, where four bands will perform: Nadezart plays Atari music, Association of Experimental Electronics (KOELSE), KYKS and El Bailandero . The event concludes with Sir Oliver’s traditional karaoke, where participants can sing their favorite songs.

MERIHAKAMATKAT is the third multidisciplinary event organized by the Oksasenkatu 11 gallery, following in the footsteps of Nerojen päivä ja Normien yö (2019) and Nerojen Hautajaiset (2022). We are queer-feminist and antifascist. The event follows the Oksasenkatu 11 Association’s safer space guidelines (available in English and Finnish via this link: https://oksasenkatu11.fi/safer-space-guidelines).
