What makes a designer “successful” or a designer’s work “meaningful” – and who or what defines it? The phenomena of our time, such as influencing, shock value, phenomenon-making, and cultural relevance, as well as the pursuit of commercial gain and growth, shape expectations of creative work.

The discussion goes through the contradictions of the creative industry: is success financial gain, recognition within the scene, excellence, personal comfort, or entirely something else? How should a designer position themselves in relation to these goals if they want to succeed, let alone do something resonable or even meaningful?

Discussion with CEO and Creative Director Timo Berry (Berry Creative), University Lecturer Tuomas Kortteinen (Aalto University), Creative Director Seena Talvi and freelance designer Veera Kortelainen. The discussion will be moderated by designer Anni Laser Tolvanen.

The panel discussion is part of the Concept Store – Consumer Culture as a Medium exhibition, which will be on display at Luonnos until 14.9.2025. This event is part of Helsinki Design Week program.
