Ashes & Seeds: A commemorative performance is a memorial to the disappearance of 43 Ayotzinapa students in Iguala, Mexico – 11 years after the event.

Memory is a controversial issue. It should be clear at a time when fake news is rife. Truth, as a construct, is rarely on the side of the oppressed, and that is why we resist. We fight for the truths we still remember, pass them on and hold on to them firmly, fiercely. We engrave them on our memories.

The performance asks how a particular event has been preserved and changed in our memory during 11 years of deception. It also questions the specific memories of people who have experienced the event from afar – via their mobile phones and social media.

Ashes & Seeds: a commemorative performance does not offer new information, but acts as a space to collectively name, connect and reclaim responsibility. Events in one place are never just local events.
