The Ensemble Nylandia continuo group continues their exploration of early Italian cello literature. In this concert, designed by cellist Tatu Ahola, they will also have countertenor Teppo Lampela as a solo guest!
After the concert programs that presented the repertoire of cellist composers who were influential in Bologna and Naples, it is time for a trip to Parma and Venice. In the operas, oratorios and cantatas of composers who were influential in these northern Italian cities, the technically more demanding violoncello obbligato part, which diverged from the basso continuo, begins to be found more and more often towards the end of the 17th century, which is a clear indication of the development of the instrument and playing skills from the accompanying role of the bass towards a more soloistic expression.
In the concert we will hear works for countertenor, solo cello and continuo by Domenico Gabrielli (1651-1690) from Bologna, Benedetto Marcello (1686-1739) from Venice and Bernardo Sabadini (early 17th century -1718) who moved from Venice to Parma, as well as instrumental music by contemporary composers who lived in the aforementioned cities.
So welcome to enjoy these gems from the archives, many of which will now be heard for the first time in Finland as interpretations by Ensemble Nylandia and vocal soloist Teppo Lampela!
