DANSBANA, LASIPALATSI SQUARE

Dance House Helsinki and Amos Rex invite the people of Helsinki to atmospheric summer dances at Lasipalatsin aukio, where visitors can experience the atmosphere of a traditional Finnish dance pavilion in an urban setting. The dances take place at Dansbana! Amos Rex, an installation and open-air dance floor set up at Lasipalatsi square for the summer.

The event brings Finnish dance tradition and its unique lavatanssi (dance pavilion culture) seamlessly into the present day. In guided dance sessions, participants will get to know Finnish traditional dances such as the waltz, tango, jenkka, and humppa. Live music, a communal atmosphere, and the joy of dancing are in store. The summer dances continue the popular series of dance pavilion events held at the Dance House Helsinki, bringing the joy of dancing together into the heart of the urban space.

Dancers of all backgrounds and dance pairs of all kinds are welcome. Bring a friend or come on your own to find a dance partner — and enjoy a summer evening of music and dancing together in a central Helsinki location. The instruction will be adapted to participants’ skill levels, making the event suitable for both first-timers and experienced dancers alike.

The dance instructors are professional teachers from the Dance Theatre Tsuumi, and the rhythms are performed by a band made up of students from the Pop & Jazz Conservatory.

The event follows a relaxed rhythm: after around 20 minutes of dance instruction, participants can enjoy free dancing, take a short break, and then continue with another round of teaching. The event is free of charge.

Dance House Helsinki’s mission is to promote, support, and present diverse dance art and dance culture. Dance House Helsinki presents both Finnish and international dance and performing arts productions. www.tanssintalo.fi
