(5) Take My Hand is an evolving multisensory installation and artistic research touching on the old and persistent impulse to make and use symbols, objects, gestures and rituals to protect ourselves and others. Rooted in Kemê’s intimate and inherited relationship with the Hamsa/Khamsa, the work has grown through relationships with other technologies of protection.

Across objects, scent, gestures and encounters, protection appears as intimate and collective, material and spiritual, desired and sometimes contradictory. The works not only reflect on protective practices: they are attempts towards protection themselves, made with attention, intention, memory, belief and care.

The exhibition opens into a spatial and emotional ecology of thresholds, traces and invitations, leaving room for belief, doubt and uncertainty, and for forms of relation whose effects cannot always be seen, measured or explained.

Take My Hand: a closing encounter

On the final day of the exhibition, an invitation to gather in the space one last time, spend time with the work, and mark the closing of (5) Take My Hand together.

Kemê’s work was supported in 2025 by a one-year multidisciplinary artist grant from the Arts Promotion Centre TAIKE. Kemê is a polydisciplinary artist working across installation, textiles, photography, performance, illustration and text, exploring how meanings, memories, symbols and emotional traces move between personal and collective life.
