‘Windline’ brings together the work of artists Iikkamatti Hauru and Alexi Hauru.
‘Windline’ reveals a world at its threshold; an encounter with landscape at the precipice. In this exhibition artists Iikkamatti Hauru and Alexi Hauru invite the viewer to encounter the landscape not as matter or mythology, but as a koan in which the landscape opens a gateway into existential mystery.
ALEXI HAURU is an artist based in Helsinki, Finland working with printmaking, drawing and painting. In her work, Johnstone uses formal structures alongside organic mark making to depict landscapes that move between concrete realization and ambiguous dissolution. Her works describe the dualism of clarity and chaos found in relationships between the modern person and their encounters with nature. Moving across many mediums, the throughline of Haurus’s practice is not method specificity, but the constant revolution around a single question; how deeply can you perceive a landscape? @alexi.hauru
Having worked mostly with digital technologies in the past, for his most recent body of work IIKKAMATTI HAURU is working within the restraints of charcoal on paper. Within the medium, he is working with primordial subject matter; wind, earth, branch, sun, bird. The crow has emerged as a central figure in this body of work, acting not as symbol or sign but as an agent of mystery pointing to unrecognized depths. @iikkamattihauru
