Welcome to the 2022 African Day celebration themed “the year of nutrition”.

African Day is an annual celebration to acknowledge the success of the Organisation of African Unity (now the African Union) from its creation on May 25 1963, in the fight against colonialism as well as the progress made while reflecting upon the common challenges that the continent faces in the global world.

Here in Finland, African Day is celebrated to bring together Africans, Finns and friends of Africa alike to promote the “Ubuntu” spirit of working together for peace and freedom in our communities. Come celebrate the day with us through an evening of various African performance experiences, starting with the colourful Macuda Cultural Group of Cameroon, followed by the soulful voice and energetic performance of Mad Ice from Uganda, and then Jey Jey’s Acrobatic show from Kenya and ending with percussion instrumental display of Nzuko Umunna of Nigeria. Since the theme for this year is “nutrition”, there is also the chance to experience some of African cuisines at the beginning.

The performance is mainly for adults and teenagers.
Organised in collaboration with Heed Finland ry, Afaes ry, Finnish-African Society ry, and Moniheli ry.
