The rocky shore pricked the soles of my feet. I took cautious steps on the stones, and when a wave struck unexpectedly with force, I decided to jump against it. My shin hit something sharp. The salty water stung. I felt a torn piece of skin. The water was warm and I swam for a little while longer.

The themes in Aku Onni Jaakkola’s (b. 1992, Helsinki Finland) photographic work revolves around trying to understand social constructs through all the things mundane. A documentaric approach allows him to explore ways of concretizing a mindscape, whether it be his or someone else’s.
