Acclaimed in New York, a dance performance by Anna Maria Häkkinen and her team will be presented for the first time in Finland.

As the sun sets beyond the horizon, its light scatters through atmospheric particles, creating hues of red, orange, and pink. In Anna Maria Häkkinen’s dance piece, the steps of eleven dancers, the live notes of the harp, and the undulating soundscapes of EDM merge together in concerted patterns. Afterglow, which premiered at New York’s Performa Biennial in 2023, fills Kiasma’s spacious top-floor exhibition hall at dawn, in March 2025

The performance is part of Kiasma’s Collection Exhibition’s Rock, Paper, Scissors programme.

Artists

Anna Maria Häkkinen 
(she/her 1981) is a cho­re­o­grap­her and a per­for­mer based in Helsinki. Her recent works inclu­de Afterglow, low lingering slips of light Performa Biennial commission work for 9 dancers and a harpist (2023 LMCC New York), Phoenix – a deep relaxation serotonin release (Uniarts 2023) a comissioned choreography for the dance students,  MONUMENTS (Ehkä-pro­duc­ti­on 2020 – 22, Kiasma ARS22 -living encounters exhibition, Pixelache Festival 23) about the monu­men­ta­li­ty and durational landscape of touch. Anna Maria is wor­king with col­la­bo­ra­ti­ve prac­ti­ces through the­mes such as touch, dance history, com­po­si­ti­on and play. She gra­du­a­ted with a MA in cho­re­o­grap­hy (2012) from the University of the Arts Theatre Academy Helsinki. 

Keliel
Keliel is Eliel Tammiharju’s (b. 1997) lifework project which participates in the phenomenons of reality through notes and air. The central method of Tammiharju’s sound design is the composition of lack. Whether this shortfall is screaming or adorable, it is something that the performance – dancer’s step or audience’s gaze can make complete. Keliel’s pieces has been presented at museums, festivals and clubs in Finland, Sweden, United States, Iceland, Germany and Faroe Islands.

Emil Santtu Uuttu
Dramaturgy Emil Santtu Uuttu’s (b. 1986) artistic works typically address inevitable change and pleasures, or the role of memory institutions and historical research.
