The subject for February 2023, Fantastic Encounters may rock the viewer in a redeeming journey, questioning their own perception once confronted with widely evocative live performance and imagery. The screening will grant us access to highly imaginative inner worlds where the magnetic reverberations of the illusory will rock on the screen.
The screening starts with Ana Gutieszca’s sound performance with visuals by VJ J. Culebro. Going Somewhere? (2012) by Shachindra Dass takes us to a bustling bridge. Anya Tsyrlina’s and Sid Iandovka’s horizōn (2019) and Christopher Harris’ Halimuhfack (2016) question how to revisit archival material. Pseudosphynx (2020) by Ana Vaz and I Call Them Glowsuckers (2021) by Minna-Kaisa Kallinen portray small creatures of other species – real or imaginary. In Farhad Kalantary’s Standing Still (2019), a lonely donkey is having an encounter with… something.
The screening programme is supported by Kone Foundation, Ministry of Culture and Education and the City of Helsinki. The screening programme is curated by Diego Ginartes, Sepideh Rahaa, Tytti Rantanen, and Azar Saiyar. The next screenings will take place on April 4 and May 16. Free entrance.
