Starting Text: Walter Rodney’s Decolonial Marxism: Essays from the Pan-African Revolution
Decolonial Marxism (Verso, 2022) is a previously unpublished collection of Walter Rodney’s essays that explore his revolutionary engagement with Black Power, Ujamaa Villages, and the struggles of everyday people to end colonial rule. A key figure in the global Black diaspora, Rodney was not just a witness to Pan-African and socialist internationalism but an active contributor, building mass movements and theorizing anti-colonial paths to self-emancipation.

This volume brings together Rodney’s reflections on race and class, radical pedagogy, programs for newly independent nations, and the challenges of anti-colonial historiography. It captures his unwavering commitment to reimagining Marxism and his belief in the untapped potential of collective self-rule.
