In several languages, the modern word for weather was once synonymous with or closely tied to words for wind, linking it to qualities of changeability and uncontrollability. The weather remains untamable, unfathomable even, yet we try to domesticate it by all possible means. Monstrous amounts of weather data are produced and distributed globally non-stop, which shapes everything from dinner conversations to global military strategies. Yet before becoming a science in the 20th century, weather forecasting was long seen as a form of magic.

Drawing its title from the glossary of aviation weather observation, the exhibition touches on these ambiguous relationships between weather, dominance and perception. The video installation and works on paper have emerged through experimental processes of abstracting and translating visual material between hand drawing, computer rendering and moving image. As a starting point I have used archival video material, as well as weather observations collected in 2023 during a residency in Mustarinda (Kainuu, Finland). The video installation is made with the collaboration of Gabriel de la Cruz.
