A dark and mysterious forest. Right where it opens up towards something lighter, there is a house. The house is where the adventure begins – or ends.

The title is borrowed from a children’s song. Childhood and play have come closer to me after having a child. Becoming a parent has brought about strange shifts in perspective – and also a lot of new tangible material to work with. Many toys are fantastic tools for wonder: blocks tumble, tops spin around, different types of modelling clay feel entirely different under one’s fingers… And what matters most is the sense of presens, not the end result. In a way, play helps us open up to the world’s potential. Just like art does.

This exhibition does not have a specific theme. Instead, I am striving for an atmosphere. I want to build a safe space in the gallery, where even adults can let themselves be swept away by the wonders of everything. This pursuit includes, among other things:
– shelters for one’s thoughts
– spaces for play and curiosity
– windows that open up
– sprinkles, puzzles and light

The exhibition features new installations and sculptures. Many of the works are based on semi-transparent materials, reflections, projections, and light. Movement, change, and interaction may occur. Welcome, step inside!

Emma Rönnholm (b. 1984) is a visual artist originally from Turku, now based in Helsinki. She graduated from Uniarts Helsinki’s Academy of Fine Arts in 2011 and works with sculpture, installation, kinetic art, and light. Her previous solo exhibition, Egoscope, was held at Galleria Sculptor in Helsinki in 2020. In November 2024, her largest public artwork to date, the percent-for-art piece Fragment av Himmel (“Fragments of the Sky”), was installed at Hoplaxskolan in Munkkiniemi, Helsinki.
