“5 months AT T E NDING is a performance that reaches through one winter on Seurasaari island in Helsinki, but happens now in 40 minutes at Pengerkatu 7 Työhuone. It is a dance and video work woven of five months: November, December, January, February, and March. It is a dance of and with a fragmented winter that has lost its predictable linearity from autumn to spring, that swings between extremities, freezes, melts, re-freezes. I committed to attending the island over this past winter, to attend to the weathers and my body there. I wanted to attempt to tend to the place and my body as they get disoriented by the months that blend together, as the winter ends over and over again. So this is a dance of asking what it is to be tended to by the rock at the southern tip of Seurasaari, and tend it back. What is it to simultaneously be tended, fragmented, attended and disorientated and carry those verbs in my body? And now, on Pengerkatu, from a distance, how to look through two windows, one of glass and one that is a screen and somehow reach there and still attend?” IM

Iiris Miettinen is a performing artist and writer based in Helsinki. Their work moves in the areas of site-intimate performance, overlappings of queer and ecological thinking and language as an embodied and moving phenomenon. Iiris holds a Bachelor’s degree in dance and choreography from the Danish National School of Performing Arts. 

Accessibility:
Työhuone is located on the street level, but there is one step at the entrance. The door is 70 cm wide.
