The exhibition features a series of works entitled Afterlife Resort. The series comprises three parts, presented as virtual reality installations in the exhibition space. They explore the threshold between life and death and the way in which our perceptions of reality are constructed. The newest part, Greetings from Parallel Reality, is a site-specific work that addresses the overlapping of different temporal levels in altered states of consciousness, such as near-death experiences.

Together with the earlier parts of the series, Afterlife Resort (2021) and Afterliferesort.com (2024), the works form a spatial entity in which virtual and physical realities merge. Boundaries and categories are blurred: decomposition become part of life, time loses its linear form, and multiple realities are open simultaneously.

Jarmo Ilmari Somppi (b. 1970) is a visual artist based in Inkoo. He graduated with a Master of Fine Arts degree from Uniarts Helsinki’s Academy of Fine Arts in 2020. In his works, rooms, apartments and buildings gradually begin to take on the characteristics and psychological traces of their occupants. His installations often develop into multisensory experiences in which space is perceived not only visually but also through bodily experience. Somppi’s works have been exhibited in galleries, museums and unconventional exhibition spaces both in Finland and abroad.
