At home
Kiasma’s collection exhibition

The exhibition, assembled from the collections of the National Gallery, leads viewers to think about the themes of home and belonging.

The At Home exhibition approaches questions of belonging and home through contemporary art. Belonging is related to identity – who we are and where we come from. The works in the exhibition show that home can be a physical place, a community or a state of mind. It can be found in language or culture.

But how does it feel to be left out? The exhibition also tells about experiences where home is far away or lost, either by force or by choice. War or exile may have cut off the connection to one’s own places and close people. Losses and longing are sometimes felt across generations. In the works, the experiences of individuals are intertwined with social changes and world events.

It is important to talk about home and belonging in today’s Finland. Migrations and transitions affect many of us. Finland is more diverse than ever, and so is the group of artists. The museum is a place for coming together and understanding each other. Through art, you can analyze the past and imagine the future.

The works in the exhibition belong to the collections of the National Gallery.
