Laura Wesamaa (b.1979) is an artist living and working in Helsinki, where she graduated with from the Academy of Fine Arts with MFA in 2008. Wesamaa’s works are created in interaction with different environments. In addition to methods of painting and sculpture, she sometimes also uses other media in her installations. Wesamaa is particularly interested in the properties of artworks and their transformation in space, in relation to the surface, dimensions and other attributes of the presentation environment. The works often unfold in themselves as places, scenes or situations where the role of the viewer is underlined. Wesamaa’s previous solo exhibition at SIC Gallery was seen in 2016. Since then, her works have been seen, among other, in solo exhibitions at HAM Gallery in Helsinki (2021) and Titanik Gallery in Turku (2020). In addition to her independent artistic work, Wesamaa has curated group exhibitions and worked in several artist-led communities and associations. Her works are included in the collections of the Finnish National Gallery, Helsinki City Art Museum and Saastamoinen Foundation. Her works are currently on display also in the Feels Like Home -exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma.
