wēod brings together Thai artist Naraphat Sakarthornsap and Helsinki-based Basque-French artist Vincent Roumagnac in a dialogue about belonging, displacement, and the poetics/politics of cohabitation.

Both artists turn to weeds, the often-overlooked category of urban vegetation, to question how borders, systems, and aesthetics delineate who is permitted to exist. In Sakarthornsap’s portraits of
“unauthorized” flora (Passport Photo for the Outsider), the language of bureaucracy meets the poetics of survival. Each weed, framed like a passport photograph, asserts its right to presence within the controlled garden.

Roumagnac’s Third-Ikebana project revisits since 2009 the gesture of ikebana, gathering wild vegetation from neglected “third landscapes” in urban environments and arranging them within the structure of Shöka style, transposing marginal growths into shared formal attention. Through these intertwined acts of observation and care, weod reflects on the aesth/ etics of inclusion, asking what it means to recognize the outsider not as intruder, but as co-body in the shared ecology of existence.
