Vanha talvitie 9, Helsinki
Welcome to an event at Kalasataman Seripaja with Milica Ivić and Sofija Pašalić celebrating the work of Matrijaršija!
Founded in 2014 in Belgrade, the autonomous cultural centre Matrijaršija is a collective focused on printmaking and independent publishing. With over a decade of experience in screen printing and five years in risograph printing, it promotes experimental techniques and practices.
Matrijaršija (pronounced: mah-tree-yar-shee-ya) defines itself as a self-managed organism; it organises the Novo Doba festival, curates the FIJUK publishing fair and runs the Street Gallery in Belgrade. More than just publishing, Matrijaršija is a space for the materialisation of a much larger network of production, action, poetics, cosmogonies, contextual positionings, beliefs, a fluid yet solid and complex platform of artistic, existential and theoretical practices.
In their Helsinki talk, Milica and Sofija will present Matrijaršija’s printmaking and publishing activities, as well as share their experiences in organising parties, fairs, and festivals as a means of supporting their autonomous activities.
This will also be the occasion for the launch of Optically Suspicious, a new book by Matrijaršija, published in collaboration with Rab-Rab Press and Baraba. This riso-print book is the first in the Tehnika series dedicated to learning typography, design, distribution and other printing techniques from radical and independent publishing practices.
The event will be accompanied by an exhibition of Matrijaršija prints at the Paja Gallery in Kalasataman Seripaja, which will be on sale during the event!
The evening will continue with a DJ set of turbo-folk-punk music!
This is the second Publishing as Scaffolding event organised by Rab-Rab Press. The events are supported by the Kone Foundation.
