Opening 19.8. 17-21

The group exhibition Mäike explores experiences of return, repetition, and identity rooted in place. The artists featured in the exhibition share a background of having grown up in small communities and later moving away from these environments. At the same time, we find ourselves returning to these places time and again, both physically and emotionally.

The ambivalence of return is the starting point of the exhibition. Places of the past are presented neither as unambiguously nostalgic nor as something to be rejected, but as contradictory environments in which attachment, shame, humour, and alienation intertwine
