Samppa Törmälehto’s second exhibition at Galleria Halmetoja is both diverse and visually concentrated. Paintings of different sizes and subjects form an expressive whole in which colour takes centre stage. Törmälehto paints metaphors for contemporary phenomena, but the works can also be read literally – at times, a painting is simply a still life or a depiction of nature. What matters most are the virtuoso formal solutions, created through contrasting brushwork and compositions charged with tension.

Samppa Törmälehto (b. 1977) has in recent years exhibited his work, in addition to Galleria Halmetoja, in solo exhibitions in Tampere and Turku. His work has also been featured in group exhibitions at venues including the Mänttä Art Festival, the Seppo Fränti Collection exhibition at Kiasma, and the Lars Göran Johnsson Collection exhibition at the Turku Art Museum. His works are held in major Finnish collections, including those of the Finnish National Gallery, the Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation, the Saastamoinen Foundation, and the Sara Hildén Foundation.
