The Winter Garden

‘sinä istut pisaroina’ is an Experimental Sculpture course exhibition by Art School Maa second year students in The Winter Garden of Helsinki 18.-22.5.2025.

The Experimental Sculpture course approaches sculpture as an open category that concerns the nature of artistic thinking and the practical working methods intertwined with it. Sculpture can be dimensional, social, monumental, light, gestural, or invisible. Realized through a variety of mediums, the exhibition situates itself within the floral landscape of The Winter Garden, raising questions not only about the relationship between sculpture and exhibition context, but also about the concepts of nature, knowledge and culture, the logics of classification, as well as the metaphorical and emotional meanings of garden.

Exhibition opening on Saturday 17.5 between 14-16

Artists: Hussein Barbar, Anna Hallikainen, Antti Heiskala, Sofia Nieminen, Nooa Paukkunen, Sara Tammi, Vilma Tietäväinen, Lucas Toljamo, Emilia Värelä

This garden is silly

bright becomes pale, grey, translucent

I can’t help thinking

Nourishment for a synthetic paradise,

It doesn’t know the same time as we

do

A garden for winter / for search /

other than the human eye that

sees

Fish change their colour

We circle the same curve, the same round, fading into the next, and the next. Classic conservational harmony & glass wall taxonomies, at least fish-pond-flowering ; droplet classification ;; paphyphytum oviferum hands, eyes, paths and oases for all ? home ? for phenomena of high scale, dissipates with a hum into transparent

I circle the same curve, the same round repeatedly, seeking meaning, avoiding and approaching. In and out. From the sun to here, from the moon to somewhere, beyond the eyes and the blue. Water runs, runs and licks the spots, memories and dents, degrees of leatheriness – a painting buried.
