The series of painted horizons focuses on the theme of death, depicting the boundary of death. The exhibition examines what is waiting for us on the other side and what it looks like and feels like on the boundary of death. The paintings depict the moods in the vicinity of death that are hard to put into words. Confusion is reflected in the paintings as color interpretations and as various seen spaces, deserts.

“Landscapes, colors and natural elements often provoke strong feelings in me. When painting, I want to connect these feelings with mental landscapes that summarize the observations about the experience of being and the related letting go. My aim is to paint something that is timeless and common to everyone.”

Turku-based Sini-Meri Hedberg is known for her pastel color landscape paintings inspired by the northern sky, abstract expressionism and German Romantic landscape paintings from the 19th century. The Waste Land features paintings in which the artist has sought a simpler style of expression.

In 2004, Sini-Meri Hedberg graduated from the Turku Art Academy and also had her debut exhibition at the Wäinö Aaltonen Museum’s Studio. Hedberg has had about thirty solo exhibitions and taken part in various juried joint exhibitions. Hedberg is a member of the Finnish Painters’ Union and the Turku and Lapland Artists’ Associations. The artist’s works are included in the Finnish state art collection and the collections of the City of Turku and the City of Rovaniemi.

The artist’s work has been supported by the Arts Promotion Centre Finland, the Arts Council of Varsinais-Suomi and the Turku Art Society.
