Suhina Klubi serves as a platform for improvised and experimental music and sound art within Helsinki. During the year 2024, improvised music ensembles will be heard in concerts held at the Myymälä2 gallery.

In the fourth edition of Suhina Klubi for the fall 2024 saxophonist Heli Hartikainen arrives to perform a solo set and a trio with percussionist Teemu Mustonen and guitarist Jukka Kääriäinen

Heli Hartikainen is a boundary breaking Finnish saxophonist, clarinetist, composer, and sound artist whose practice derives from a pursuit of enduring textures, functions, and forms. As a saxophonist, Hartikainen is a passionate instrumentalist who constantly pushes the boundaries of their instrument (and themself) ever further. Experimentation is at the core of Hartikainen’s creative practice, in which abstraction and existential inquisitiveness playfully intertwine with an insatiable love of sound – their work stands as a testament to the power of artistic experimentation.

Teemu Mustonen is an improvisational percussionist exploring the possibilities of drum set and its preparation in solo and ensemble contexts. He performs broadly, collaborating with bands like Pambikallio, Linear John, and Kryptareflat.

Jukka Kääriäinen is a musician focused on experimental music. Depending on the situation, Jukka’s instruments of choice include an acoustic guitar with preparations or an electric guitar with a bag full of effects. Kääriäinen has performed in many European countries and at international festivals in the United Kingdom, Spain, and France. In addition to solo concerts, he regularly performs in bands and has collaborated with many leading European improvisers such as Teppo Hauta-Aho, Kalle Kalima, Harri Sjöström, Axel Dörner, Kriton Beyer, Rieko Okuda, Anil Eraslan, Mikko Innanen, and Joel Grip, premiering works by composers such as Riikka Talvitie, Sebastian Hilli, Sami Klemola, Clara de Asis, and Tytti Arola.
