Responsible and ecological production and the use of textiles are more relevant than ever before. The Sustainable Colour exhibition focuses on one of the essential aspects of textile manufacturing – dyeing. The traditions of dyeing date back a long way from human history but needs and customs have changed over the centuries.
Dyer’s profession has formed their own branch of industry and, on the other hand, a rewarding hobby. Our attitudes and demands on colours will affect the dyes, that will be used in the future. Could colours produced from bio-based sources be a natural part of our lifestyle, emphasizing the origin of materials, sustainable production and recycling?
Sustainable Colour is an exhibition produced by the Craft Museum of Finland. The partners are the BioColour research project led by the University of Helsinki, Coloria.net and the Finnish Dyers’ Guild. Exhibition architecture by Elina and Klaus Aalto.
