THE CLOUD OF UNKNOWING

The exhibition is inspired by the meditation book The Cloud of Unknowing which was written in the 14th century in England, probably by a monk or a priest. The author states that it is fruitless to seek the truth of existence through the intellect – it must be done with love and be a naked step into what is hidden in darkness and unknown. “Don’t think – love!”

Gunzi Holmström works intuitively and processes her own experiences of the spiritual dimension in her art. She is particularly interested in the symbolist and surrealist traditions and medieval visual narrative. The exhibition features oil and watercolor paintings and a sculpture.

In connection with the exhibition, the book “Gunzi Holmström – maalauksia målningar paintings 2013-2023” with text by curator Juha-Heikki Tihinen is realised. The book can be bought in the gallery or directly from the artist.
