The Scent of an Apple is based on the 1988 genocide in Halabja, the largest gas attack on civilians in history.
The film’s protagonist, 17-year-old Amira, suffers from severe pain and respiratory symptoms. The film paints a picture of a disabled Amira and the long-term consequences of war and violence.
