In the animation, the forest is a space where one moves without a destination. The movement continues without a beginning or an end, leading neither away nor towards a destination. Movement has become a permanent state, stirring one to reflect on time, direction, and the meaning of the forest and wandering.

The works have been drawn with charcoal that I have made myself, using materials gathered in the forest surrounding my home.

When drawing, I use my subject as a way of exploring the possibilities of my material. My work is characterized by the tension between a free and deliberate approach to drawing, as well as observation-based interpretation. I aim to capture both the essence of the elements and their state in that particular moment.

Vera den Arend (b. 1996, Zwijndrecht, Netherlands) is a visual artist who graduated from Kankaanpää Art School in 2019 and works primarily with drawing. In her works, she depicts her relationship with her surroundings, the people around her, and her own reflection.
