Mad House Helsinki and Nuori Taide are organising a workshop for young adults (under the age of 29) interested in making art. The workshop includes three live group meetings in Helsinki and participation in a one-to-one  performance Avatar Me on the Zoom platform.

The workshop introduces participants to live and performance art and encourages them to make performance try outs. Through various bodily exercises and relaxed performance experiments, we examine what performance art is and can be. The focus is on the participants’ own interests in and curiosities towrads performing and live art. No previous experience in performing required.

In addition to bodily exercises and performance experiments, the workshops include watching video material, such as excerpts from live and/or performance  artworks, and participating in the Avatar Me performance.

Avatar Me is based on the everyday lives of people around the globe, in which the viewer is involved in real time via Zoom. The work provides one example of the various forms of contemporary performance and sustainable international production. Inspired by various examples, we consider how to find a starting point for a performance in one’s own everyday life.

Participants are invited to participate in joint discussions and commit to all three meetings and the Avatar Me performance (performance in English).

The workshop can accommodate up to 10 participants.

The workshop follows the principles of safe space.

The workshop is led by artist, choreographer and performer Lin Da (aka Lin Martikainen). The artists of the Avatar Me show come from all over the world.

The ground of Lin Dan’s practice is within questions related to somatics, intra-action and sustainability. Lin works in between choreography and contemporary dance, as well as
performance and visual arts, with the materiality of the body, touch and incompleteness. Their work has been shown at Mad House Helsinki, Stoa Gallery, Camerata Hall at Musiikkitalo, UrbanApa X Ateneum Festival, Loikka Dance Film Festival, Tanzfaktur’s Sommer Akademie Festival in Cologne and NEU/NOW Online Festival in Amsterdam, among others.
