In Edris Samani’s newest work titled Lifeloop created for Sports Hall Window, motion is in focus. The centerpiece is a zoetrope, one of the earliest forms of animation, for which Samani envisioned life as a continuous cycle – wherein everything is connected, transient, with no true beginning or end.

Life is an endless motion of recurring days, nights, months, years, emotions, and experiences – which pass and repeat. Pain shatters the familiar patterns, forcing us to break apart – and then after, allowing us to be born again from ourselves. In each rotation, there is the potential to recreate, to heal, and to emerge transformed.

Edris Samani is an Iranian Kurdish artist based in Helsinki. His practice includes film, animation and painting, often revolving around subconsciousness and hidden layers of the self.
