GAP Window is pleased to present its sixth window exhibition, Through Their Eyes, opening on 4 February 2026. This exhibition brings portraiture to the forefront of public space, offering an intimate exploration of individuality, emotion, and human presence in the heart of the city.
About the Exhibition
Through Their Eyes presents a selection of portraits alongside preparatory sketches that reveal both the finished image and the process behind it. The project focuses on individuality and expression, aiming to capture what lies beneath the surface of each subject. Every portrait is approached as a form of visual storytelling, where personality, emotion, and character take center stage. Rather than idealizing or simplifying the subject, the works invite viewers to pause and observe subtle details. Facial expressions, posture, and gaze become carriers of narrative, offering glimpses into the inner worlds of the portrayed individuals. The exhibition also reflects the artist’s method of close observation and analysis, highlighting portraiture as a process of discovery as much as representation. Displayed in the GAP Window, the works invite passersby to slow down and engage with human stories unfolding quietly within the urban environment.
About the Artist
Julia Gagarina von Heiroth is a visual artist based in Helsinki. Her practice explores the space between imagination and reality, primarily through portrait and figurative works. Working with classical oil painting and drawing techniques, she combines architectural precision with emotional depth, creating images that feel both structured and deeply expressive. Drawing lies at the core of her artistic practice. Through drawing, she discovers characters, stories, and fragments of memory, often working in a graphic black and white language punctuated by sudden and intentional color accents. This balance between restraint and expression allows her portraits to feel intimate while remaining visually refined. Julia’s work is rooted in observation, patience, and craftsmanship, continuing a long tradition of figurative art while speaking clearly to contemporary audiences.
In the GAP Window
With Through Their Eyes, GAP continues its mission of transforming public space into a site of artistic dialogue. By placing portraiture in the window, the exhibition creates moments of quiet connection between viewer and subject, offering a reminder of individuality within the shared rhythm of city life.
GAP WINDOW is a window exhibition project initiated by Globe Art Point in 2021. The concept was created for the members of GAP Creatives Database with an aim to provide a unique opportunity to exhibit and/or experiment with their own artistic work and ideas. Our window is visible from the street, you do not need a special access to see it.
