Peetu Liesinen indulges in refined tones in which the color and texture of the painting surface are vividly present. He does not shy away from nostalgic hues. Old postcards, textbooks, and magazine images lend a worn aesthetic to the paintings. In the exhibition, one is tempted to trace affinities with pop art collages, yet despite these echoes of the past, Liesinen manages to maintain a firm grip on the present moment. In a timely way, he pushes back against the kind of visuality typical of our era.

This is Peetu Liesinen’s second exhibition at Galleria Halmetoja. He graduated with a Master of Fine Arts from the Academy of Fine Arts in 2020, and his works are included in several public collections, including the Seppo Fränti Donation Collection at Kiasma, as well as the collections of the Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation and the Saastamoinen Foundation.

We will celebrate the opening of the exhibition in the presence of the artist on Thursday, March 26, from 5–7 pm. You’re warmly welcome!
