The WeeGee building and Tapiola Church, designed by Aarno Ruusuvuori, were completed 60 years ago. We celebrate these landmarks of Finnish modernist concrete architecture through the interpretations of young people.

A group of visual arts course students from Etelä-Tapiola Upper Secondary School explored the architecture of Tapiola Church and the WeeGee building. The works in the exhibition are inspired by Aarno Ruusuvuori’s minimalist design language. In their works, the students have examined the buildings’ forms, rhythm, and atmosphere through their own visual expression. Etelä-Tapiola Upper Secondary School is located in the WeeGee building’s extension, designed in 1974 by Bertel Ekengren.

The young people of the Tapiola parish have created works based on their own interpretations of Ruusuvuori’s architecture. For them, the Tapiola Church is a place where they meet other young people.

The project has been carried out in collaboration with EMMA – Espoo Museum of Modern Art, KAMU – Espoo City Museum, Etelä-Tapiola Upper Secondary School, Tapiola Parish and Exhibition center WeeGee.

The exhibition featuring the students’ works will be on display in the Ruusuvuori space at the Exhibition Centre WeeGee from April 17 to April 29, 2026.

The exhibition will be celebrated on Thursday, April 23, starting at 4:15 PM. The program includes a music performance by the Etelä-Tapiola students in the WeeGee lobby, speeches, light refreshments, and a chance to explore the exhibition. Welcome!
