In Chinese language, 象 carries echoes of elephant, image, and phenomenon.
亻象 adds the “person” radical 亻, meaning likeness, figure, or idol.
亻象 fractures the image back open.
Ginko Hsu presents in the galleria, instead of a complete art exhibition, a working state as part of Olla ei mistään kotoisin (Of No Origin), an ongoing artistic research project. This working state moves between elephant, image, idol, and the illegible body as it appears through fragments, proxies, and replicas.
Ginko Hsu is a Helsinki-based sculptor and interdisciplinary artist. Her work lives in the space between memory and myth, where fragments of memory collide with established archives. To access what has been lost, she turns to the body and its afterimages – tracing how bodies unfold in fragmented visual landscapes: in flesh, in clay, in plastic, and in broken syntax.
On Wednesday 22.4 we will have a small “Tea with the Artist” open event from 16:00-18:00.
Drop by for a cup of floral tea and a conversation with Ginko Hsu. Free and open to all.
The afternoon is meant to create space for dialogue, reflection, and a more informal encounter with the works and the ideas behind them.
