In her fourth solo exhibition, Heidi Forsman expands her practice beyond oil painting to include printmaking and installation.
The works are based on memories, mental images, and the unconscious – visions that begin to emerge when one closes their eyes. These dreamlike views bring together the familiar and the strange, the ordinary and the supernatural. The works seek to capture something that is difficult to put into words: a feeling, an experience, or a glimpse of something that viewers may recognize.
In the works, one encounters the ominous flicker of candlelight, the fragility of morning dew on flower petals, and the feeling of a world that is becoming increasingly heavy to carry. After the strain, one longs for comfort, rest and connection. The world is on fire, and so is the human in it. Yet the works hold on to the idea that no one is ever entirely alone with their experiences.
For Forsman, the significance of art lies above all in its ability to create shared experiences. While painting, she is alone, but not lonely. The exhibition is an attempt to bridge the distance between people – to leave viewers with secrets, moments of recognition and glimmers of light that reveal themselves like a patch of sky seen through the tent door.
