The second exhibition in the Space for New Art encourages us to reflect on time and listening. Antti Tolvi´s (b. 1977) work consists of sound, light and beds that vibrate at a low frequency, and it invites you to pause and reflect.

For Organ and Pause is both an installation and a long-duration performance that begins when the exhibition opens and ends when it closes.

Together, the sound, light and beds create a slowly evolving and transforming work of art. The continuous sound is produced by the angelica archangelica organ and beds that go quiet six times during the exhibition. These pauses provide space for the performances composed by Tolvi and performed by him together with other musicians.

Tolvi is a sound artist and performer with a background in experimental music. Tolvi is fascinated by long-duration performances that challenge our perception of time. A work that goes on for more than three months is impossible to experience from start to finish. Instead, we can quieten down and pause to savour it for a specific, unique moment.

On Friday, 25 September, at 11:00, Antti Tolvi (flute) will perform solo.

Space for New Art is HAM’s new platform for versatile art-making and innovative exhibition concepts. The space offers – engaging both body and mind – captivating encounters with art and artists. The first open call focused on exhibition proposals that enliven the art experience through performative and audience-engaging methods.
