You are standing in a market in the suburbs of Johannesburg. Or maybe you’re catching a ride on the bustling streets of Rio. Or cooking in a small village in Moldova.
Soon someone you don’t know is talking to you and for a moment you have no idea where you are. You look down and find someone else’s body. You’re talking, but it’s not your voice. You are no longer you, you are someone else, in a different life, in a completely different part of the world.
Avatar Me is a participatory, one-to-one live-performance, and for 45 minutes you live someone else’s life. The performance is a “first-person”, live-streamed experience where you for a moment affect another person’s actions elsewhere in the world. You will be placed in unfamiliar surroundings, meet with unknown people – maybe you make new friends and perhaps you experience something you would never have experienced in your own life.
Avatar Me sends you on a very different and personal journey across borders. It is also an intimate experience with closeness and presence – and above all, something completely new.
International performers will be based in South Africa, Brazil, Moldova and London. When you book your ticket, you can choose the time of the performance. When the performance starts, you will be told where in the world the piece will take you. After booking your ticket, you will receive further information about the practicalities by email.
The language of the performance is English.
