It is with great pleasure that we announce the forthcoming edition of BOOKED. Once again, our wholly interdisciplinary approach to artist’s books will present a diverse selection of books by artists, as well as posters, drawings, a code-based lyrical essay combining text and animation with a degree of randomness, videos, a sound poem, and several installations.
For example, an installation by Päivikki Kallio, comprised of rotatable marble cylinders, riffs on medieval prayer books, diary entries and the quotidian.
Moreover—and for the first time ever—BOOKED encompasses two off-site projects: False Dawns by Duncan Butt Juvonen in new MUU Window space in Jätkäsaari, Helsinki, and Hortus Futuri by Ana Vujovic Magic, shown in Forest Trail event in Meltola.
Participants for this year’s event were selected by a jury composed of artist and writer John Gayer, sculptor and Art Hub Pikisaari co-founder Minna Kangasmaa, visual and media artist and Art Hub Pikisaari co-founder Tuomo Kangasmaa, and artist Tuomas Ollikainen.
Of the more than 130 applications made in response to MUU’s Open Call, 45 artists, artist groups and art organisations were nominated to take part.
Countries represented in this year’s event include Austria, Brazil, China, Finland, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Serbia, Slovakia, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
Opening of the exhibition on Saturday 6 September at 13:00 – 16:00. Welcome!
BOOKED 2025 Off-Site:
Off-Site project 1:
MUU Window features Duncan Butt Juvonen’s False Dawns (2025) in an extended presentation. The shades of this huddle of old floor and table lamps adorned with text and images express vulnerabilities, apologies and complaints.
MUU Window
Jätkäsaari, Välimerenkatu 15, 00180 Helsinki, Finland
Visible round the clock: 20 August to 5 October 2025
Off-Site project 2:
Ana Vujovic’s Hortus Futuri (2024) is a 2-part artwork and intervention composed on rocks, part of the Magic Forest Trail. Moreover, Hortus Futuri’s texts are written in Braille, which not only makes reading a tactile and performative event, but also enables the visually impaired to communicate what is said.
This work and the others along the trail prompt visitors to slow down, listen to and feel the surroundings, experience nature with all one’s senses.
