This walking tour takes you to Itä-Pasila, a neighborhood that exemplifies the utopian ideals of 1970s urban planning. Conceived as a “compact city” designed to encourage community and provide easy access to services, Itä-Pasila is a concrete-heavy landmark of its era. The tour explores the area’s unique architectural character and examines how the ideals of 1970s urbanism have held up over time—and how they connect to the district’s current evolution.

Join us for a deeper look beneath the surface of Itä-Pasila!

The tour is written by the experts at the Architecture & Design Museum Helsinki and guided by museum educators familiar with the theme.

It is part of the museum’s 2026 summer series of architecture walking tours through some of Helsinki’s most intriguing residential areas.
