Exercises in Transparency is a work of performance art and an artistic research project that examines the ideal of openness that permeates contemporary society.

At the heart of the work is a contradictory, perhaps childlike, need: to be seen, but to remain hidden.

The work, which moves at the interfaces of everyday life and art, does not present pre-packaged claims, but invites the public to reflect on the subject together with the work. What kind of games do transparent spaces and materials call you to join? In what way is the human body – perceived through different senses – transparent, open or honest? How to present yourself transparently in a way that meets your expectations and those of the environment?

Exercises in Transparency is a joint project of three performing art professionals.

The work consists of a series of performances, each of which approaches the subject from a different perspective, in different ways.

The project is led by artist, performer and journalist Katriina Kettunen. The core working group also includes scenographer, performer Kristian Palmu and sound designer, performer Oula Rytkönen.

Reality Research Center, founded in 2001, is a collective of artists engaged in performative adventures. Our shared aspiration is to observe, question, and renew reality by creating performances. Our vision: Art opens the spectrum of reality.
